Information on Guyed Bird Deflectors for Communications Towers
BIRDTEX BALL INFORMATION

Material:
Birdtex Balls are made of High Impact ABS plastic with an acrylic (Korad) film co-extruded to protect the material from ultraviolet light.

Dimensions:
Diameter: 27 3/8"
Length: 13 3/8" to 16 1/16"
Weight: 1 lb. 10 oz. to 1 lb. 15 oz. (including hardware)

Tower Loading:
Birdtex Balls have been shown to add no appreciable loading to towers.By example, Birdtex, Inc. installed 129 Birdtex Balls on a 480 foot guyed tower.

The tower was a typical telecommunications tower, having a 70% guy radius and designed for 4 tenants, each with 12-panel antenna and 12 runs of 1 5/8" coaxial cable, plus a 6' microwave at 440'. Structural load analysis of the tower concluded that the additional load from the Birdtex Balls had a negligible effect on the tower and its members.

After installation of the Birdtex Balls, the tower was certified by a professional engineer to conform to the requirements of TIA/EIA-222-F for 90-MPH wind speeds.

Attachment:
Birdtex Balls can be fitted to guy wires of any diameter. Birdtex Balls can be attached directly to guy wires if installed at the time the tower is stacked. If the tower is already stacked, Birdtex Balls can be positioned on existing guy wires at prescribed intervals.
